The Colour Purple

The Colour Purple is my mother’s favourite book and very close to my heart. It is a story of trauma and gradual triumph. The book is written with a vision of purple throughout, so I thought no better way to paint the story. The main character in this story only has one person, her sister, who cares for her. Their love is shown throughout the book with the childhood game of clapping their hands together and singing “me and you must never part”. Are they playing the game, or being torn apart? The image created represents these two strong themes within the book.
